The Community Agricultural Social Cooperative "Agricola Mpidusa" or Agricola Mpidusa, is the dream of a possible future. Born on the island of Lampedusa in 2020 from the trust and love of its community, but above all from an idea of the Terra ! association, it wants to pursue the mission of relaunching agriculture, combating climate change through agroecological cultivation methods, including people with fragilities and involving the community around the agricultural and food traditions of the island territory. Agricola Mpidusa is above all sustainable towards the environment, as it has chosen not to use chemical pesticides, to recover local varieties, promoting biodiversity and taking care of the soil, to avoid desertification due to climate change. But not only is it also sustainable for the community and the economy of the territory: it creates job opportunities, recognizing workers the right compensation, and paths of socio-work inclusion and environmental education in the schools of the island. It produces seasonal, quality food, at km 0, to underline the importance of food security and sovereignty of each member of the community, and encouraging a sustainable approach also towards tourism, with guided tours of the company. In order to promote the territory, they created the local identifying product: the wild fennel liqueur of Lampedusa.
