Social sustainability in 9 actions

Social sustainability is a fundamental aspect of a company's overall sustainability. It is a commitment to creating a more just, equitable and inclusive world, where all employees have equal opportunities.

When we talk about social sustainability, we are referring to all those actions that a company implements to improve the lives of people and communities in the territories in which it operates. It is not just a matter of producing goods and services, but of doing it in the right way, taking into account the needs and rights of all.

A company that practices social sustainability is primarily concerned with protecting the human rights of its employees, regardless of their country of origin or social status. This means ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, absence of discrimination and freedom of association, with the mission of reducing social inequalities and promoting inclusion and diversity, very often offering opportunities to people who have previously suffered discrimination based on gender, ethnic origin or social background.

Contributing to the development of the communities where the business is born and thrives, supporting social, cultural and environmental projects, is certainly another fundamental aspect. This can be done, for example, by investing in education, healthcare or the creation of local jobs. But not only that. It is also necessary to set up internal policies aimed at the well-being of workers, taking care of one's employees, offering them a healthy and stimulating work environment, opportunities for professional growth and well-being programs, for example by supporting humanitarian causes or promoting volunteer initiatives.

So why is social sustainability important? Because it creates value , increasing the perception of stability and long-term growth of the company. Paying attention to the social impact of companies and preferring to buy from those that demonstrate a concrete commitment to sustainability should be the norm, and instead it is still considered " a revolutionary act ".

Since satisfied and motivated employees are more productive and creative, implementing social policies helps build a better future , especially in companies that are born to regenerate conflictual and highly uncomfortable social contexts, such as prisons, where employees can find the right opportunity for redemption, because they are reassured and involved, as well as being an investment for future generations.
